#denying medical care

This is an absolute utter disgrace, a catholic clinic has refused to treat a 14 year old girl's ADHD; all because she is trans. They told her mother "We don't see transgendered patients in this clinic."
This is complete discrimination and I'm fed up with religious institutions expecting a special right to discriminate. A religion shouldn't be the exception to the rule.

Normalize letting trans kids live.

universal healthcare is not broken and anyone trying to convince you it is is delusional and a dckrider for big health insurance. yes there are wait times but waiting for care is Not the same as being denied care.
in america your physician prescribes care and an insurer can still cuck you out of it because someone across the continent who has never met you can say: doesn’t seem medically necessary. Leaving you to handle a bill that is wildly inflated by the same insurers that just denied you.
let me drill it through your head you can pay thousands a year in premiums and still end up sick and financially burdened for years by One incident. no insurance company is Avoiding going broke by denying claims. theyre doing it to profit off your misfortune and your illness. Because healthcare fundamentally does not cost the amount that they claim it to be.
#delete later#out of pocket rant#i hate these god awful takes on universal health care#and i hate this oh he killed a father#how many fathers do you think uhc let die be real with me#oh 8 billion is only 6% profit margin#bitch it could be 2 percent it could be a negative loss#this is me saying oh i resold a shoe for $60 after buying it for $50 when i also made it for 80 cents#i have been denied things like chest xrays and lung exams#i btw have had a chronic cough for 4+ years#in canada i got this done on the same fking day and results back within a month#there are indeed horror stories and on both sides of know ppl who died due to delayed diagnosis#and ppl who died bc they didnt even want the diagnosis it would have cost them too much#but robbing someone of the choice in my opinion is the worse of the two#putting someone in an impossible position like that is evil#this country love god so much better start praying u stay healthy bc thats the most important thing#also like those horror stories of wait times in the er#im gonna be real if u have severe stomach pain are actively bleeding heart attack or stroke#you will be seen asap#yes if unfortunately everyone around u that day decided to have a stroke or heart attack ur appendicitis will be punted down the line#this is a resource issue NOT a cost issue#this is a they also cut funding to nursing school and limited the number of ppl who can pursue medical degrees issue#not a we dont have privatized health care issue#bc ultimately u need a doctor to see u#not someones sister who is taking stabs at it#and every doctor is bound by the concept of time???#u still have to wait in america ur Charged for it also#and yall it doesn’t even have to be a Big incident#ur local urgent care might just be closed after 8pm and at 9pm u need stitches#or have severe stomach pains and just want it checked

As an outsider, I do think it's very telling that the only good thing they can think of to say about that guy who got shot is that he was a father.
Not just because everybody should have more good things to say about them than that, but because… he ran a company that (in theory) pays for people's healthcare?
Like, that's what a health insurance is, right? The Americans have way too expensive healthcare for any normal person to afford, so they get insurance to help them pay. That's supposed to be the deal, isn't it?
And yet nobody is posting saying stuff like: “my Auntie Mabel would have died from her cancer, if UHC insurance hadn't paid for her treatment!”
Or “after the accident, I thought Timmy would never walk again, but thanks to physiotherapy paid for because we had UHC insurance he's playing for his school football team!”
In fact, a bunch of people are saying stuff like: “after the accident, I thought Timmy would never walk again— and I was right, because UHC said that being bipedal was a pre-existing condition, and Timmy ended up dying from gangrene due to lack of treatment.”
Like, the NHS has done a lot of fucked up stuff (google 'NHS scandal' for examples) and has some bullshit policies. But they also help people on a daily basis, because that's their job.
What the fuck service is UHC meant to be providing? Because it apparently isn't helping many people pay for healthcare.
#uhc#luigi mangione#uhc shooting#like i knew american healthcare was FUCKED UP#but i always assumed that like… you guys must have safety nets?#or like bigger safety nets than you seem to have#like a truly sick person wouldn't actually be denied medically necessary care if it was available but they just couldn't pay#but no#apparently that regularly happens#us vs uk#us politics#i know it's super unlikely to happen nationally what with the whole trump thing#but i sincerely hope that recent events at least inspire individual states to move towards a better model of healthcare

that they’re just getting sick and going insane for the last chapters before what was supposed to be their marriage makes me insane. what do you mean myshkin was scared he’d die in his sleep. what do you mean nastasya drove him past the epanchin’s house and he was sick for two days. what do you mean myshkin was so scared about rogozhin that nastasya couldn’t calm him down and she only made him worse. what do you mean she saw a vision of rogozhin with a knife in her garden and was ‘in a state of near delirium’ for the whole day. what do you mean he showed up at her house and she started sobbing in his arms. they need to be studied under a microscope
#the idiot#the idiot dostoevsky#prince myshkin#nastasya filippovna#and the time framing of these chapters is so odd too. im not sure when most of these events happen or in what order. when does she even#drive him past their house. before evengy visits him? after? before he knows they’ve left? before he thinks he’ll die in his sleep#and lebedev tries to convince a doctor to label myshkin insane. and myshkin apparently denied all medical care before that??#medical care for what#what is going on with them in their last hours i swear

Not only is having a mental health diagnosis in your records not neutral, but it is dangerous. Not just in the medical setting, but, yeah, including within the medical setting.
You are immediately less likely to be believed. You are immediately more likely to receive lower quality care, no matter what symptoms you're experiencing or whether or not it's considered a "physical" vs. "mental" issue. Everything will be attributed to your diagnosis, and depending on the nature of that MH diagnosis. Considering that most of these diagnosis are based in racial and gendered biases, among other things, they are "scientific" ways of declaring certain demographics less deserving of care in the medical setting.
A mental health diagnosis should not make you a second-class citizen during a medical emergency. The stigma is baked into these diagnoses, and it's killing people.
#text#my stuff#antipsych#antipsychiatry#medical abuse#sanism#ableism#reminder that having ANY MH diagnosis is dangerous in a medical setting#just as recently as the pandemic people with ADHD learning disorders and autism had DNRs put on them without consent or knowledge#alexander morris was having chest pains and breathing problems#and the MOMENT they thought he was 'crazy' they immediately denied him appropriate care and denied him oxygen#he had seizures because of this

also im not even halfway through squirrelflights hope and god bramblestar is insufferable. are we sure he wasn't possessed before tbc even starts
#denying medical care to severely injured cat just because he's spiteful? as if cobwebs and marigold and poppy seeds are EVER in low supply#he was an asshole last arc too but not this bad#jesus. it's like they need to emphasize that he's not firestar by making him the least likeable/empathetic character they can imagine#and i know it only gets worse from here between the rest of the book and the whole trial stuff#he wasn't this big an asshole in bramblestar's storm. he was just normal then. understandable.

Really hate the 'welcome to adulthood, hope you like ibuprofen!' style of post because do you know how much better my childhood and adolescence would have been if I'd had access to ibuprofen.
#children can be in pain#children can have chronic health issues#and children don't even have control over their own care. as evidenced by the fact that i was denied medication by my mother

Everyone has human rights, even the people you hate (yes even the person you’re thinking about right now) Peoples rights should not be dependent on which people are deemed “good” or “pure.” It’s so easy to think if you take away some rights from groups you don’t agree with you will improve the world but you won’t. You will just become another person removing rights from people you don’t like.
#people have rights#they don’t have to earn them#people do not have to say the ‘‘right’’ things#or belong to certain groups to have them#everyone has them#but this is very complicated#and grey#no black or white thinking works here#I don’t think the people I hate should be starved denied medical care etc.#sometimes people are so focused on being right they forget that the goal should be coming together#and creating a better world for everyone
